What, Why
How, Try Framework

A 30-minute, self-paced digital learning intervention designed to help learners understand what Net Debt is, why it matters, and how to apply it when assessing a business’s financial position.

The Net Debt project gave me the opportunity to take a technical financial concept—one that many learners may have heard of but never fully understood—and transform it into an accessible, engaging, and practical digital learning experience. I designed and developed this 30-minute self-paced module to introduce learners to what Net Debt is, why it’s an important metric, and how it is used to evaluate a business’s overall financial health. My goal was to make the topic not only understandable, but also directly relevant to learners’ day-to-day work.

To structure the experience, I used the instructional framework WHAT – WHY – HOW – TRY, which shaped the entire flow of the learning journey.

  • WHAT: I introduced the concept of Net Debt with a clear, animated explainer video that illustrates the formula and the components involved.

  • WHY: I then contextualised the metric, explaining why Net Debt matters and what it reveals about a company’s financial stability, risk profile, and borrowing capacity.

  • HOW: Through guided walkthroughs and multimedia content—including motion-graphics, a short interview-style podcast segment, and scenario-based explanations—I demonstrated how Net Debt is used in practice.

  • TRY: Finally, I designed a practical, interactive exercise that allows learners to apply their knowledge, calculate Net Debt themselves, and interpret their results in a realistic work scenario.

One of the defining characteristics of this module is its multimedia interactivity. Rather than relying on text-heavy screens, I created a blend of video, audio, animation, and hands-on tasks to maintain engagement and support different learning preferences. The video included in the module—shown above—is one of the central assets I developed to help learners visualise the Net Debt calculation in a simple, intuitive way.

Throughout the project, I focused on making the content concise, relevant, and approachable, ensuring that learners walk away with both conceptual clarity and practical confidence. The result is a streamlined yet impactful e-learning experience that demystifies Net Debt and equips learners with the tools to use it meaningfully in their work.
